Development History
The ancestors of the Zhang clan first arrived in Taiwan from the eighth year of Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1743 AD). The ancestors of the Zhang clan who had been farmers for generations in Anxi Quanzhou, Fujian Province, of course, chose the skills they were good at after arriving in Taiwan. The history of traditional deep-roasted Tieguanyin tea is, therefore, started its new chapter of history in Taiwan.
Mr. Zhang Qingquan, the founder of Maokong Tea Master, began to assist his family in tea production and other farming works in 1966. After more than ten years of diligence and pursuit of his own path, in December 1980, he realized that he wanted to do some contribution to the tea industry in Taiwan and the society, hence, he decided to establish the brand "Qing Quan Tea Art", which means "Clear Spring Water Tea Art". With this shop, he hoped to pass down his tea production skills to young tea masters and promote taiwanese tea culture. Three years later, when Mr. Qingquan fully inherited the family's traditional tea-making techniques, he changed the shop's name to "Qingquan Tea House".
After decades of training, he started to participat in various competitions and had won hundreds of awards including special prizes, first prizes and second prizes in mainland China and Taiwan. Some tea masters and his friends started to call Mr. Qing Quan "tea god". Due to his superb tea-making skills, he officially changed the name of the shop to "Maokong Tea Master" in 2015. ( in Mandarin the shop's name is called Maokong Tea God, but in translation we use Maokong Tea Master to respect that some religions believe that there's only one god.)
In his whole career of being a tea master, he had always adhered to Lao Tzu's core concept that "people follow the earth, the earth follows the sky, the heaven follows the Tao, and the Tao follows the nature." It is used as a metaphor to emphasize that we should make tea without going against nauture. When we follow nature, good tea will be presented presented naturally.
